OWEN SOUND, ON – On Friday, local MPP Bill Walker and Hugh Wilson, a volunteer with the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) met with representatives from the Active Lifestyles Centre Grey-Bruce to hear how an $18,200 Community Building Fund grant has helped it with key operating costs. The Centre was excited to re-open to the public after being closed for 18 months, due to COVID-19 restrictions.
“This is an investment in the seniors of our area. It will ensure they are able to continue to meet, socialize and interact in a healthy and safe environment, and I am pleased to help them return to their activities and keep active and the organization sustainable in future.” Bill Walker, MPP- Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound
The Centre is used by seniors that attend a variety of programs and activities that include Bridge, Pepper, Arts and Crafts, Acrylic Painting, Sew Be It, Lace making, Line Dancing, Gentle Fit Exercise as well as other activities. Thanks to the $18,200, it received from the Government of Ontario and OTF, it was able to help cover operating costs, like hydro, water and security, as well as to assist with the salary costs of a staff member. As a result of the grant, and the team at the Centre, seniors in the community will continue to have an inviting, friendly, place to socialize and meet with old and new friends while participating in a variety of programs and activities.
